The ninth annual Innovation Roadshow® was not only a success, but also our largest to date!
With showcases demonstrating almost 100 new product concepts, flavors and technologies, attendees took a number of ideas for their own product lines - new flavor insights, unique product development applications, category transfer ideas, and most importantly, a renewed sense of creativity.
During the opening session, Roadmap to the Roadshow, David Michael’s marketing manager and trendspotter Victoria Vaynberger encouraged participants to “look beyond the table. Her presentation got the morning off to a dynamic start with a behind-the scenes look at the Innovation Showcase and the trends that influenced this year’s product innovations.
Creativity is a way of life at David Michael, and with over 70 food scientists, flavor chemists, color engineers, chefs and technicians worldwide, we’ve got a lot of great ideas. The Roadshow’s Innovation Showcase gives our talented staff the opportunity to explore new concepts, conduct research or work outside of their area of expertise – allowing them to truly focus on innovation and reveal what’s on their own radars.
Just a few of this year’s highlights include:
- Chia Seed Pudding – Chia seeds are packed with fiber, protein antioxidants and omega-3s. Our mango-strawberry flavored pudding boasts a handful of healthful attributes; it is all natural, gluten free and contains calcium, fiber vitamins and minerals.
- Chicken Pot Pie Nuggets – For the picky eater in need of a nutritional boost, a five ounce portion (4-5 nuggets) supply one full serving of vegetables, added fiber and of course, meat protein. Just like in a classic pot pie, the sauce, veggies and protein are all contained within the crust. A Japanese bread crumb and pie crust batter enrobes this unique nugget that marries chicken with peas, carrots, leeks and sauce.
- Cappa Foam – A key element to a great cup of cappuccino is the signature coffee-shop foam that rests on top. Cappuccino drinkers who’ve tried to duplicate the foam without the benefit of espresso machine know the product usually falls flat. Cappa Foam is a dry powder that is mixed with milk, microwaved and whipped with a mechanical foamer. Utilizing David Michael’s Michtex® techonology, we were able to replicate the rich, dense microfoam that lasts the entire time the beverage is being enjoyed.
During the Innovation Showcase, attendees enjoyed Technical Sessions focused on delivering indulgence in health conscious products and future fusion flavors and textures.
The event ended with a keynote presentation by Jeff Miller, Director of Culinary Research and Development for Dunkin’ Brands. His presentation educated our attendees on how to differentiate their product by adding a twist to the familiar.
