Associate Account Manager - United States

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
This entry level position offers a comprehensive 12 to 18 month one-on-one training program in DM’s Philadelphia corporate headquarters. Upon competition of the program the individual must relocate to sales territory in a US major city as an Account Manager. Training offers hands on exposure to every aspect of our business and covers product knowledge, customer service, company operations, and professional selling skills. Our goal is to have the most knowledgeable sales force in the industry.

This is a creative, consultative, professional sales position geared toward developing new business opportunities and servicing existing business. It entails building long-term relationships, supporting our clients in their endeavors to create new food products, helping them utilize our products effectively, and offering customized solutions. Emphasis is on the development process rather then the quick close.

QUALIFICATION & SKILLS REQUIRED:
The ideal candidate has 0-2 years experience, is strongly sales oriented and knows sales is the career path he/she wants to pursue. This person possesses strong interpersonal and communication skills, motivation, and determination and is a self starter. Industry knowledge is a plus. This person has an aptitude for both science and business and a desire to learn and think creatively.

Territories are assigned during training based on the needs of the company. The ideal candidate must move to Philadelphia for sales training and then relocate to a sales territory after training is completed. Account Managers are placed in major cities in the United States to begin a long term career in sales.

EDUCATION/ TRAINING/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Candidates must have a Bachelors Degree.
  • All candidates must have a valid US drivers license and be a US citizen.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • 90% Travel
  • Ability to sit in a car for up to four hours

    Senior Flavor Chemist

    SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Create and prepare flavors as well as assist in various Laboratory functions.
    • Interface with Quality Control and Regulatory.
    • Independently create flavors as directed through project requirements.
    • Create, execute, analyze, and implement designs of experiments on internal and customer profiles.
    • Prepare project plans and schedules to meet and complete companies’ objectives.
    • Collaborate with other departments, such as analytical, food science and research to support flavor creation.
    • Participate in all sensory taste panels and discussions.
    • Collaborate with VP/Technical Director on Special Projects.
    • Leadership role in assessing new Innovations and Flavor Technology.
    • Expertly develop flavor solutions including flavor duplications, new creations, and modifications across a broad range of flavor profiles to meet customer and internal project requests.
    • Develop and apply appropriate methods to test stability of aroma chemicals and flavor materials through processing and application.
    • Manage and successfully mentor Junior Flavorist and Technician staff. Train Flavorists and Application Technologists in flavor chemistry and flavor processing.
    • Support Sales & Marketing objectives and directly interact/visit with target/key customers in support of existing and new business growth opportunities.
    • Participate in internal and external training and seminars for technical team, sales, customers, or new hires.
    • Drive the investigation and discovery of new ingredients technologies, materials, and methods that will provide innovative solutions to customer and industry challenges.
    • Serve as the flavor expert during the transfer of flavor formulas from bench to successful production by applying in depth understanding of processes and operations to ensure successful product scale-up and troubleshooting of problems.
    • Successfully represent the organization on important project teams, major committees, task forces, or other critical roles.
    • Interpret, assess and apply analytical data to successfully complete projects.
    • Generate & champion new ideas, demonstrate feasibility and take opportunity to business for resource decision.
    • Prepare and deliver customer presentations.
    • Recognize problems, gather and interpret significant data to find creative solutions to complex issues.
    • Innovation and Research Projects as per Corporate Direction.


    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    • Understanding the interaction of flavor in food and beverage.
    • Develop flavor within the required budgetary guidelines of assigned projects.
    • Competency in the development of liquid, dry, spray dried, agglomeration, emulsions and any other new innovative technologies and flavor delivery systems.
    • Use flavor creation formula tools effectively and efficiently such as Devex and lotus Notes.
    • Knowledge of food and flavor regulations and labeling.
    • Generate technical data needed for formula completion and shipping.
    • Knowledge of David Michael’s total product categories and core strengths.
    • Prepare flavor samples as created and apply to application mediums for evaluation.
    • Participate and lead customer technical working sessions in Philadelphia and at customers facility when necessary.
    • Explore, research, develop flavor delivery or processing systems.
    • Participate in quality control evaluation taste panels.
    • Work in conjunction and assist flavor applications food scientists when requested.
    • Obtain laboratory items and target samples for projects that are typically grocery store marketed items.
    • Coordinate and prepare project materials for presentations and shipping.
    • Maintain raw material ingredient stock within the laboratory.
    • Maintain laboratory in a clean, orderly, safe manner.
    • Follow all appropriate safety and laboratory procedures.
    • Participate in Innovation forums, i.e. “Road Show”, TMIG (technical marketing interface group).
    • Attend industry related flavor meetings, seminars, or work shops.
    • Participate in brain storming, ideation meetings when necessary.

    QUALIFICATION & SKILLS REQUIRED:

    • Must demonstrate a superior sense of smell and taste.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills.
    • Ability to build good relationships with peers and customers.
    • Capable of excellent odor memory and recall.
    • Instinctive and self motivated.
    • Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Engineering or related field.
    • Regarded as an "expert" in flavor creation with a minimum of 15-20 years of progressive flavor development experience and an artistic flair for flavor creation.
    • Thorough understanding and knowledge of flavor analytical methods for flavor analysis.
    • Proven track record of commercial success in flavor development.
    • Experience defining and assessing project requirements (project management) designing and managing experiments & effectively communicating and presenting results.
    • Strong customer focus – both internal and external.
    • Experience effectively collaborating with cross functional teams.
    • Excellent organoleptic skills and knowledge of sensory language required.
    • Ability to influence others and do so in a leadership role.
    • Must be competent to deliver formal presentations.
    • Enthusiastic and goal oriented with strong initiative and self-motivation.


    EDUCATION/ TRAINING/ EXPERIENCE:

    • Minimum of 15-20 years experience in a laboratory situation in the food, flavor, or beverage industry.
    • 5+ years supervising employees and/or leading teams.
    • BS and/or MS in Food Science, Chemistry, Engineering or related field
    • Successfully achieved Certified status in the Society of Flavor Chemists or Complete the David Michael Flavor Chemist Training program as outlined in the syllabus and achieve certified status in the Society of Flavor Chemists
    • Competency in developing a wide range of winning flavors for various applications such as Beverages, Dairy, Bakery and Cereal

    • Handle flavor chemicals and laboratory glassware and instrumentation.
