Flavor Chemist

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Create and prepare flavors as well as assist in various Laboratory functions.
  • Independently create flavors as directed through project requirements.
  • Create, execute, analyze, and implement designs of experiments on internal and customer profiles.
  • Prepare project plans and schedules to meet and complete companies objectives. 
  • Collaborate with other departments, such as analytical, food science and research to support flavor creation.
  • Participate in all sensory taste panels and discussions.
  • Create and prepare flavors as well as assist in various Laboratory functions.
  • Train flavor laboratory technician in all aspects of flavor compounding and flavor laboratory functions when necessary.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Understanding the interaction of flavor in food and beverage.
  • Develop flavor within the required budgetary guidelines of assigned projects.
  • Competency in the development of liquid, dry, spray dried, agglomeration, emulsions and any other new innovative technologies and flavor delivery systems.
  • Use flavor creation formula tools effectively and efficiently such as Devex and Lotus Notes.
  • Knowledge of food and flavor regulations and labeling.
  • Generate technical data needed for formula completion and shipping.
  • Knowledge of David Michael’s total product categories and core strengths.
  • Prepare flavor samples as created and apply to application mediums for evaluation.
  • Explore, research, develop flavor delivery or processing systems. 
  • Participate in quality control evaluation taste panels.
  • Work in conjunction and assist flavor applications food scientists when requested.
  • Obtain laboratory items and target samples for projects that are typically grocery store marketed items.
  • Coordinate and prepare project materials for presentations and shipping.
  • Maintain raw material ingredient stock within the laboratory.
  • Maintain laboratory in a clean, orderly, safe manner.
  • Follow all appropriate safety and laboratory procedures.
  • Participate in Innovation forums, i.e. “Road Show”, TMIG (technical marketing interface group)
  • Attend industry related flavor meetings, seminars, or work shops
  • Participate in brain storming, ideation meetings when necessary
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to build good relationships with peers and customers

QUALIFICATION & SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Must demonstrate a superior sense of smell and taste

EDUCATION/ TRAINING/ EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum four year college degree in a laboratory science
  • Minimum of 10+ years experience in a laboratory situation in the food, flavor, or beverage industry.
  • Achieve Certified status in the Society of Flavor Chemists or Complete the David Michael Flavor Chemist Training program as outlined in the syllabus and achieve certified status in the Society of Flavor Chemists

    Flavorist - David Michael Beijing

    SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

    David Michael (Beijing) Flavor Co. Ltd. Currently has an immediate opportunity for a highly motivated, success driven Flavorist to join our rapidly growing team in Beijing China. This position will report directly to the Deputy General Manager – Technical Director.

    • Creating finished flavors using basic natural and/or synthetic flavor raw materials in response to directed profiles and market trends
    • Evaluate new raw materials and assists Quality Control in organoleptic evaluation of manufactured flavor products and purchased raw materials
    • Work with Sales, Marketing and Food Technology as part of a multi-disciplinary team to develop new business
    • Be an integral part of David Michael global Technical team.


    QUALIFICATION & SKILLS REQUIRED:

    • Bachelor degree in food technology, food science or chemistry with 5 to 10 years experience, including independent work in creating flavors
    • In-depth knowledge of essential oils and Natural and Artificial raw materials
    • Outstanding team work and organizational skills
    • Good communication skills both verbally and in writing
    • Fluent in Mandarin, Chinese and English.

      Staff Accountant

      SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
       Responsible for the maintenance and administration of the US and Foreign general accounting systems including upkeep of the general ledger, fixed assets and submission of accurate and timely data for financial reporting purposes.

      ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

      • Prepares required monthly and annual general ledger journal entries for U.S. operations
      • Maintains Sage Fixed Assets Software for all activity and prepares monthly entry for depreciation, gain or loss for book and tax purposes
      • Performs monthly analysis of U.S. general ledger accounts and prepares  required accounting work papers for year-end audit
      • Balances U.S. monthly and yearly sales and cost of sales
      • Posts manual checks to U.S. general ledger
      • Reconciles U.S. bank accounts
      • Prepares monthly U.S. financial statements
      • Maintains  QuickBooks for foreign entities
      • Prepares and files quarterly Pennsylvania Use Tax Returns.  Prepares and files other state Use Tax returns as required
      • Assists in preparation and maintenance of U.S. departmental budgets
      • Cross trains in Accounts Payable function
      • Performs necessary administrative work in the Accounting area
      • Performs or assist on special projects as needed

      QUALIFICATION & SKILLS REQUIRED:

      EDUCATION/ TRAINING/ EXPERIENCE:

        Associate Account Manager - United States

        ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
        This entry level position offers a comprehensive 12 to 18 month one-on-one training program in DM’s Philadelphia corporate headquarters. Upon competition of the program the individual must relocate to sales territory in a US major city as an Account Manager. Training offers hands on exposure to every aspect of our business and covers product knowledge, customer service, company operations, and professional selling skills. Our goal is to have the most knowledgeable sales force in the industry.

        This is a creative, consultative, professional sales position geared toward developing new business opportunities and servicing existing business. It entails building long-term relationships, supporting our clients in their endeavors to create new food products, helping them utilize our products effectively, and offering customized solutions. Emphasis is on the development process rather then the quick close.

This person has an aptitude for both science and business and a desire to learn and think creatively.

        Territories are assigned during training based on the needs of the company. The ideal candidate must move to Philadelphia for sales training and then relocate to a sales territory after training is completed. Account Managers are placed in major cities in the United States to begin a long term career in sales.

        EDUCATION/ TRAINING/ EXPERIENCE:

        • Candidates must have a Bachelors Degree.
        • All candidates must have a valid US drivers license and be a US citizen.

        WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

        • 90% Travel
        • Ability to sit in a car for up to four hours
        • Average hours per week: 45
        • Capable of carrying containers up to 50 lbs.

          Manager of Regulatory Affairs and Product Compliance

          SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
          Manages the regulatory function within David Michael to achieve and maintain updated compliance to the applicable regulations affecting our industry;
          Provides internal and external customer support and guidance regarding our products and services; Assists in the establishment of current and future regulatory requirements for our business activities and, functions are highly interdependent with other departments including sales and manufacturing.

          ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

          • Demonstrate and promote the company vision
          • Completion of product submission/registrations in accordance with current global regulations and guidelines
          • Review and approve product release status for new products
          • Prepare regulatory product related submissions
          • Assist in conducting compliance audits
          • Monitor global regulatory developments and formulate corporate response
          • Maintain knowledge of current regulations and potential developments across industry and participate in formulating company response
          • Identify regulatory challenges within company and provide development of resolution
          • Other duties assigned as deemed necessary by supervisor.

          QUALIFICATION & SKILLS REQUIRED:

          • Ability to develop regulatory solutions relative to our operations
          • Must be detail and results oriented
          • Must demonstrate strong managerial skills
